Frequently Asked Questions
What is Vajrayana Online?
Vajrayana Online is Tergar’s community platform for students to explore the Buddhist path of awakening under the guidance of Mingyur Rinpoche, with courses and resources to deepen understanding, experiential learning through guided meditation, and guidance for applying meditation in everyday life. With topics from the earliest teachings of the Buddha to the advanced practices of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, Vajrayana Online is a treasure trove of teachings for those interested in and dedicated to the Buddhist path.
What's included in each course?
Each Vajrayana Online course includes video teachings with Mingyur Rinpoche, guided meditations, detailed practice instructions, journal and reflection questions, special webinars, readings, resources, and experiential instructions for daily life.
As a member of the Vajrayana Online community, you will also be able to receive year-long transmissions with Mingyur Rinpoche, join live sessions with Tergar guides (practice sessions, Heart-to-Heart, and Dharma Geek), and schedule one-on-one practice interviews with Tergar guides to receive direct orientation.
Where should I start?
We recommend that you start with the Exploring Buddhism courses. After completing all or most of the Exploring Buddhism courses, you can continue your journey in Deepening Wisdom.
If you are a Tergar Path of Liberation student, you can start in the Path of Liberation Level 1. If you are already practicing other levels of the Path of Liberation, the next courses will be coming soon. In the meantime, you can take any Vajrayana Online course to enrich and deepen your practice.
If you are a Mahamudra and/or Dzogchen practitioner and meet the prerequisites, feel free to explore the courses in the Nature of Mind area.

Which courses are restricted and have prerequisites?
All the Exploring Buddhism and Deepening Wisdom courses are open to everyone, without any restriction or prerequisite. With video lessons, reflections, guided meditations, and more, just a few of these courses can take more than a year to complete and represent a vast and rich tapestry of material to study and practice.
Some Nature of Mind courses are restricted. In Mingyur Rinpoche’s experiential tradition, practices are followed step by step. This ensures that the student is ready for the next level of teachings. Trying to progress to more advanced levels without having done the prerequisite practice is not beneficial and in some cases may produce obstacles. For this reason, certain courses, retreats, and teachings have prerequisites. When the transmission topic is Mahamudra and/or Dzogchen, the Voices and Essence courses are open, and the Immersion courses or sections within the Immersion courses that are specific to nature of minds for that transmission are restricted. There are two options to meet the prerequisites for accessing restricted nature of mind content:
- Option 1: Attend any in-person Tergar Path of Liberation retreat with Mingyur Rinpoche or Khenpo Kunga.
- Option 2: Receive ngondro transmission and nature of mind pointing out from a qualified lineage holder, and have at least 5 years of regular meditation practice.
Finally, the prerequisite for exploring a Path of Liberation course is to have attended the corresponding Path of Liberation retreat.

Are these courses suitable for lazy, busy people with no discipline like me?
Yes, Vajrayana Online was created for everyone who wishes to study and practice the Buddhist path under the guidance of Mingyur Rinpoche. We all have obstacles and deep-rooted habitual patterns, but we can always practice, even if only for a few seconds each day — "short times, many times," as Rinpoche always teaches.
Some participants say that after just one live session, or a short video with Mingyur Rinpoche or a guided meditation, they feel refreshed and motivated to practice more and more. So, yes, Vajrayana Online was designed for you!
