Essence of Dzogchen: Three Words That Strike the Vital Point

About the Course

Dzogchen is considered the highest and most profound form of meditation in the Nyingma School of Vajrayana Buddhism. Its teachings lay out a path of meditation that reveals the pure, nondual awareness – or rigpa – that is the mind’s true nature. Once recognized, the experience of rigpa radically transforms our experience of thoughts, emotions, perception, fundamentally changing the way we see ourselves and relate to the world.

In this Essence of Dzogchen course, you will be introduced to the core principles and history of the Dzogchen lineage.
Observe your awareness in this very present moment, just as it is.
It cannot be spoiled by the comings and goings of thoughts and memories,
Nor corrupted by ordinary thoughts of good and bad.
This awareness is vividly present, yet devoid of thoughts,
And while it is devoid of thoughts, it is vividly present.
This naked transparency is, in essence, the dharmakaya.
— Longchenpa

Welcome from Tim Olmsted

About Tim Olmsted

Tim began his Buddhist studies in 1977 under the late Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in Boulder, Colorado. In 1981, Trungpa Rinpoche invited Mingyur Rinpoche’s father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, to teach in Boulder. Profoundly moved by him, Tim and his family moved just a few months later to Kathmandu to study with Tulku Urgyen and his sons.

During the twelve years that he lived in Nepal, Tim studied with many of the older teachers living there and worked as a psychotherapist serving the international community. In 2000, Tim moved to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where he served for three years as the director of Gampo Abbey, the largest residential Buddhist monastery in North America. He is presently the president of the Pema Chödrön Foundation, which supports Gampo Abbey.

In 2003, after a visit by Mingyur Rinpoche to Gampo Abbey, Tim started the Yongey Foundation to support and promote Mingyur Rinpoche’s activities in the West. Tim lives with his wife Glenna in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he leads an active community that follows Mingyur Rinpoche’s teachings and those of his family lineage.

Don’t worry, you will only need about one hour to complete each lesson, and you can take the course at your pace.

Where can I purchase Stainless Prajna?

Stainless Prajna: Meditation Manual on the Treasury of Abhidharma is not yet published. The English translation is expected to be completed next year. A draft translation is provided to all Vajrayana Online members as part of the course materials.

During the course, you will receive teachings and practical guidance to explore each chapter and meditation in the text.

Is it possible to begin the immersion after it has already started?

Yes! You can join anytime and access all the material. You won't miss anything.

Who can take this course?
