Literature, Translation, and the Shape of Practice

Michele Martin explores how a lifelong engagement with literature, philosophy, and meditation shaped a practitioner–translator’s relationship to Tibetan Buddhism. Topics include early formative encounters, Zen training and its limits, Mahamudra pointing-out instruction, and the responsibilities of translation. Throughout, the emphasis stays on lived experience: how texts, teachers, and practice inform one another, and how these traditions speak to modern psychological and cultural concerns without losing their depth.
