In this conversation with Cortland Dahl, Erik Pema Kunsang reflects on five decades of study and practice with great masters such as Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and Trulshik Rinpoche. He warns against creating a gap between Dzogchen as teaching and Dzogchen as person: “the person must be Dzogchen, not the teaching.” He recalls the feeling of “finally coming home” with Tulku Urgyen, shows how teachings lose their power when reduced to information, points to the inclusiveness of Dzogchen, and explains how true practice is pausing, returning again and again, until there is no disconnect.
