In this course, Mingyur Rinpoche reviews the key instructions and guides the meditation

Everyone is homesick because our true home is inside us, and until we recognize that, we will long for comfort outside ourselves. The issue is whether we set out for home on the right or wrong path. Taking refuge connects us to the right path.
— Saljay Rinpoche

 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Path of Liberation?

The Path of Liberation is an experiential path of meditation for those who wish to practice the Buddha’s teachings under the guidance of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Encompassing the most important practices of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism and building on the foundational teachings of the Joy of Living, the Path of Liberation presents meditation techniques from the Mahamudra and Dzogchen traditions designed to strip away the causes of suffering and uncover the radiant awareness that underlies all experience.

There are two tracks in Path of Liberation. Each track is designed for a different set of circumstances. The first track is based on a short practice liturgy written by Mingyur Rinpoche entitled Nectar of the Path and is designed for people who have roughly 30–60 minutes for their daily meditation practice. The second track is based on the traditional ngöndro or foundational practices. This track works best for those who can practice between one and two hours each day. Both tracks culminate in the practice of a White Tara sadhana written by Mingyur Rinpoche entitled Radiance of the Heart.

What are the prerequisites for beginning Nectar of the Path Level 2?

To engage the Nectar of the Path practice of this level, you need to participate in a Tergar Path of Liberation Level 2 retreat in person, where you will receive the necessary transmissions for the practices. You can find all of Tergar’s events at Tergar Events. You will find the prerequisites in the Path of Liberation chart.

How long will it take to complete the practice requirements for Nectar of the Path?

The total practice requirement for the Nectar of the Path track is 500 hours. The five levels of this track could be completed in roughly three years with 30 minutes of daily practice.
