Hi, !

Vajrayana is known as the most direct path to awakening — profound and powerful, yet often misunderstood. In this transmission, we will explore the underlying principles, or blueprints, of Vajrayana practice, revealing how even the most challenging emotions and obstacles can become fuel for awakening.

Through courses and retreats with Mingyur Rinpoche, guest teachers, Tergar lamas, and Vajrayana Online guides, we will explore the principles of the five wisdom energies, guru yoga, self-liberation, and pure perception.

For the first time, Mingyur Rinpoche will personally guide us through the transformative system of the five wisdom energies
— a beautiful and inspiring Buddhist framework for recognizing that the very traits we wish to eliminate are, in fact, our enlightened qualities. When seen clearly, what appear as weaknesses or problems are our greatest strengths.

New this year, you can now access Tergar's complete transmission with a single subscription, eliminating the need to register for individual retreats and courses.

The transmission starts on August 1, 2025.

2025–26 Transmission Calendar and Learning Path

The Blueprints of Awakening transmission begins with the Welcome Session on August 1, followed by the first live webinar on August 9 and an opening retreat with Mingyur Rinpoche from August 22–24. Also in August, participants will enjoy Voices of Awakening — the first Vajrayana Online course in the transmission — featuring special guest teachers.

This opening phase lays the foundation for The Essence of Vajrayana course (September through October) and leads into the heart of the transmission: a nine-month immersion from November 2025 to July 2026. Through four in-depth modules, you’ll explore the five wisdom energies and buddha families, the guru principle, pure perception, and self-liberation. New content will be released monthly so you can move at your own pace. The transmission also includes a second retreat in February 2026 and culminates with a third retreat with Mingyur Rinpoche in May 2026.

Throughout the year, participants will enjoy live and recorded video teachings with Rinpoche, guided meditations, weekly live sessions with Tergar guides, webinars with world-renowned Buddhist teachers, study material, readings, and experiential instructions for daily life.

In this transmission, all online courses, events, and retreats are open to all levels of students, from complete beginners to long-time practitioners. There are no prerequisites.

Ordained by the 16th Karmapa in the 1970s, she studied under masters including Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. She earned a doctorate from Oxford University for her work on buddha nature and is the author of The Guru Principle. She is the founder of the Awakened Heart Sangha, guiding students worldwide from her retreat center in Wales.

Robert Thurman

Guest Teacher
Robert Thurman is a renowned scholar and translator of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1965, he became the first American ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk by the 14th Dalai Lama. After returning to lay life, he earned a PhD from Harvard and taught at Amherst and Columbia, where he held the first endowed chair in Buddhist Studies in the West. He cofounded Tibet House US and has authored numerous influential works, including his latest book Wisdom Is Bliss.

Lama Drupgyu

Guest Teacher

He later served as lama of Kalu Rinpoche’s Paris center and became the first Westerner appointed as Drupön (Retreat Master) in Canada. He translated Jamgön Kongtrul’s Treasury of Knowledge and now serves as Vice President of the Tsadra Foundation.

Lama Trinley

Tergar Lama
Lama Trinley has been the resident teacher at the Tergar Mingjue Phoenix Center since 2007. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Vajrayana Online membership and the full transmission plan?

Previously, Vajrayana Online members had access to the transmission courses but needed to register separately for each of the three retreats. With the full transmission plan, you receive the same Vajrayana Online membership while also gaining access to all three transmission retreats through a single monthly contribution.

I’m already a Vajrayana Online member. What should I do?

No action is required to join the three courses in the new transmission — Voices of Awakening (Aug), Essence of Vajrayana (Sep–Oct), and Blueprints of Awakening Immersion (Nov 2025–Jul 2026). All courses are included in your current membership, just as in previous transmissions, and you can register for each retreat separately. So if you’re happy with how things worked before, nothing needs to change.

However, for Vajrayana Online members who want to join the full transmission plan, including all three retreats, there’s now an easy way to upgrade your plan:

  • For the Standard or Sponsor plans, the upgrade includes the admission fees for all three retreats, with the total cost spread out evenly over the course of 12 months. This way, the retreat fees are integrated into your monthly subscription — with no additional or separate fees. After one year, your membership will automatically return to your current Standard or Sponsor level.
  • For the Reduced plan, upgrading will also involve changing the VOL membership plan (for example, from Reduced to Standard) to match the pricing of the full transmission plan, which is not available at the reduced rate.

Even if you upgrade now, your current membership stays exactly the same until August, when the new monthly rate begins.

If you are interested, click Join Now above, and you’ll be guided to log in and upgrade your Vajrayana Online membership plan to include the three retreats. Your progress is safely recorded, and the update process is quick and seamless — it only takes a minute!

What is Vajrayana, and what do you mean by Blueprints of Awakening?

Vajrayana is known as the most direct path to awakening — profound and powerful, yet often misunderstood. In this transmission, we will explore the underlying principles, or blueprints, of Vajrayana practice, revealing how even the most challenging emotions and obstacles can become fuel for awakening when seen clearly.

Through courses and retreats with Mingyur Rinpoche, guest teachers, Tergar lamas, and Vajrayana Online guides, we will explore the principles of the five wisdom energies, guru yoga, self-liberation, and pure perception.

For the first time, Mingyur Rinpoche will personally guide us through the transformative system of the five wisdom energies—a profound Buddhist framework for recognizing your true nature and transforming even the most afflicted states into wisdom qualities.

What does it mean to receive a transmission?

“Transmission” is a traditional term that refers to a set of meditation teachings that is passed down from a teacher to a student or group of students. In the Tergar context, “transmission” means that Mingyur Rinpoche passes on important lineage teachings to students so that we can recognize the buddha within and stabilize this recognition. In addition to teachings and meditation instructions, a transmission may include other elements that can help make the teachings more experiential for us such as reading transmissions (lung) for important texts, empowerments (wang), and opportunities to receive vows.

Do I have to be a Buddhist to join the transmission?

No. This transmission includes courses and events open to all who wish to better understand the Buddhist tradition, its practices, and the workings of the mind.

Do I have to have prior experience in meditation?

Prior experience in meditation is suggested but not required for these open events and courses. Mingyur Rinpoche teaches in a highly relatable way, so much of this transmission is based on exploring our lived experience. If you wish to acquire a foundation for these practices, attending a Joy of Living program online is a good option.

Can I join at any time?

You can join Vajrayana Online at any time. New material will be released monthly, and you can engage in it at your own pace. In the case of the online retreats with Mingyur Rinpoche, however, it is highly recommended that you attend the live events at events.tergar.org rather than watch the recordings. Recordings will be made available, but only for a limited time.

What if I miss part of the year-long transmission? Can I still participate?

Absolutely! The elements of the transmission function together as a cohesive whole, but each one also stands alone. Join in whatever elements work for you!

What makes our birth so precious is our potential for awakening. We are born buddhas, and all dharma practices help us recognize and nurture this truth. Because we do not actually believe in our own capacity for awakening, these teachings work to reverse the tendency to see ourselves as insufficient.
